The signal device installed on each unit is generally installed on one side of the unit's operating surface for easy observation by the operator. It is often referred to as the "machine side signal box" and can also be installed on the side wall. Its position should be easy to observe and relatively eye-catching. The signal devices installed in the control room are generally equipped with a vertical control screen (with the same appearance as the distribution screen), which concentrates the signals of each unit on this control screen. This screen can also be equipped with fault alarm signal systems, power station ventilation control signals, etc. For smaller and less demanding power plants, their signal devices can be simplified.

There are many types of routes for command and communication signal devices, which can be selected or designed separately based on tactical technical requirements, the nature, status, and specific settings of diesel power stations.

In addition, necessary measuring instruments such as frequency meters, voltage meters, etc. should be installed on both the command and communication signal box (screen) and the machine side signal box. So that operators can observe the operation of the unit and issue correct command signals.

Setting of fault alarm system

The fault alarm device is generally located in the control room, and the screen, box, and table are determined based on the number of units and the alarm content. Set up a small and simple box and hang it on the side wall.   When setting up the screen, it is usually necessary to choose the same external dimensions as the distribution screen, in order to install it side by side and make the control room neat and beautiful.

When setting up accident and warning signals simultaneously, the sound of their signals should be significantly different. In general, the sound system for accident signals can use an electric whistle, while the warning signal can use a loudspeaker. In order to distinguish it clearly from the accident signal sound system, the warning signal can also emit intermittent sound through a flashing relay. In addition, to ensure the reliability of the fault signal light display, the fault signal light sign can generally be connected in parallel with two light lights. When one of them is damaged, it can still ensure the display of the fault signal and make the wiring of the light sign circuit simple.

The light fault signal of the fault alarm system should be automatically released after the fault disappears, while the heavy fault signal should be able to lock itself and be manually or automatically reset with a delay. After the accident or warning signal device is activated, the on duty personnel can cut off the sound signal through the sound reset button, but the light sign signal should still be retained for the on duty personnel to handle the fault.

When there is an accident trip signal for each main switch of the power supply system in the power station, in order to reduce the display components of screen light, a special flashing device can be set up to make the trip indicator light (green light) flash during the accident trip. The flashing device can be activated by accident signals or an independent device can be set up.

In short, when setting up fault alarm signal devices, efforts should be made to be concise, simple, reliable, and practical.
